It is hard to believe ten years ago today I married my Cam!
It was hard to decide on a place to have our wedding because while we loved our church it just didn’t seem like a good fit for us to have a typical church wedding. About a week after we got engaged I told my mom and dad we really wanted to get married at the farm. I specifically told them I didn’t want them to overdue it. We lived there, we worked there and I didn’t them to kill themselves that summer trying to get everything perfect. About a week later my mom and dad came to me and told me that instead of spending money on a one time use tent they were going to build my dad the shop he had always wanted. While most shops look like a big metal box and I am sure my dad would have been tickled with that, my mom had other plans. We had just taken a trip East a year before and she loved all of the buildings we saw on our trip and it inspired her design for dads shop.
My dad and brothers worked that summer on the building and by the time the wedding had rolled around it was ready to go. They also decided to reside the big and little barn that were already on the farm when they bought it as well. It was something they had always wanted to do and it seemed like a perfect time since they were working on the new building. You can see them in the back of this picture of my dad and I.
We got married in my parents front yard under a gazebo my mom and dad had built. I will never forget how I felt when I stepped off their front porch! I felt so ready, so grown up but in many ways now I feel like my life was just getting started.
The morning before the wedding Cameron and I met in the gazebo and read vows we had written to each other. We both wanted to write our own vows, but Cam wanted it to be more personal and just share them the two of us.
My favorite part (besides marrying my Cam) was the laid back atmosphere. My grandpa and great grandpa sat on rockers on my parents front porch and after our pictures were over we walked around the side of their farmhouse to the new barn and everyone was sitting outside getting ready to have dinner.
Everyone was clapping and being so sweet and we were just excited to be married 🙂 You can kind of see my dads shop in the photo above that he built for our reception.
It was a wonderful evening and the people and memories are something that Cam and I still treasure today. So Happy Anniversary to us, I hope you enjoyed a peek into our special day!
