One of my favorite memories when I think of my childhood is the buzz our home always seemed to have…Kids were in and out and my parents’ house is still much that way. They have unexpected guests all the time and my mom never seems to miss a beat. I pray that I am that gracious with guests now that I have a home of my own. When Cam and I lived in Texas hands down the hardest thing was being away from our families, especially at Christmas. But through that struggle we received one of the greatest gifts we could have ever received. Hospitality.
We weren’t always able to spend holidays with our families, but we were always welcomed at our neighbors’ and friends’ tables at holidays and throughout the year. These friends and neighbors became family, and when it was time to move back to Missouri the hardest part was leaving them.
They were there to pick up grandparents at the airport when babies were born, brought meals when those babies came home and opened their own doors to us every Christmas Eve.
Once we moved back to Missouri, we loved having people over and started realizing that the hospitality we received in Texas was something we wanted to give as well. Opening the barn and our farm was natural because we love people, and we love sharing what we have with them. As the barn has grown, one of the biggest questions we get before a sale from vendors and shoppers is Airbnb options for them to stay while they are in town. We have a few and I always send them to those houses, but we really don’t have that many….
In October while we were still recovering from our fall market we noticed the cutest house with a for sale sign in the yard. We both agreed it was super cute, but it needed a lot of work and the changes we would want to make weren’t doable with the price.
So, we waited. But I couldn’t quite get the little house out of my head. At the beginning of the year we decided to make a got at it one more time and the rest is history. We closed Thursday and my brother and Cameron (and Weston;) started tearing things out this past Saturday.
We are so excited to have a place to share with y’all when you visit our little town. It will also be home to our upcoming workshops!
I snapped a few pictures Saturday while the guys were working:
The kids love going to the “little house” and even bring their tools to help out. They had a lot of fun hammering and prying these cabinets apart.
This little porch is one of my favorite parts of the house. I have the perfect light I have been saving from one of our markets to put out there. It will be the perfect spot to sit and relax while you stay at the house.
We are so excited to begin this adventure and look forward to hosting some of you soon! Renovations are in full swing and we are hopeful to have it open this spring!
