It’s that time of year when it seems everyone is busy purging and giving their home a good cleanse. My brain gets a little foggy and full when I am on Instagram and I see women tackling a room a day.
My season of life does not allow for a big purge everyday where I completely clean out a room. Our days are busy with homeschool, market prep, farm chores and doing all the other daily tasks like cooking food and cleaning it up seventy thousand times.
I do love to open a drawer and not have sharp knives fall out on my feet so I have been doing a little bit each day and it has helped tremendously get things back in order little by little during these quieter days.
If you feel a little overwhelmed by your home and all of its belongings at the moment I hope these simple steps help you shift your perspective and help you achieve small goals that bring you joy in making your house a home.
I like to go at things at an steady pace or it becomes too busy and toilsome.
We try to knockout as much homeschool as possible in the morning so while the boys work I do a simple task. Yesterday I tackled our utensil drawer. I keep a big reusable shopping tote hanging on our door to the garage and as I got through each little drawer I add things to the bag that we can let go of.
Little by little a space gets cleared out and refreshed and little by little I enjoy the space more and have renewed perspective.
One thing that always stands out to me every time I do this is I realize how much we have and how little we actually need. It’s always good perspective when starting a new year.
I hope that if you are overwhelmed with your home right now that me sharing this approach helps you in some way.
Go ahead…. light a candle, turn on some music and take one little step at a time towards getting your home back in order.
